Coppa Del Mondo Milano
Greeting and salutations from Milan!!
We had a good and fairly quick journey here from munich, only 7 hours by road, compared to the spanish team that flew and took 13 hours. What a shame!! The hotel is quite nice, its clean and spacious, though not a patch on the holiday inn. Worst of all, NO KETTLE!!!!! Doh.
We have had 2 unofficial training sessions so far which all things being equal have gone very well for me. The first one was an absolute howling gale, very difficult to read and judge the strength, but generally we coped as well or better than others.
Today was better conditions and subsequently scores and 10 frequency was a lot higher.
The prone matches are on saturday (Elimination) and the qualificationa and final are on Sunday. Will be home sometime on Monday evening me thinks!!

Talking of Shooting jackets, I have ordered a new one from Kurt Thune. As many of you know these can be made up of warious coloured panels etc, so I have a competition:
Out of these 2 designs, which did I pick??

World Cup Munich Day 6
Not a good day at the office today I'm afraid!!! A below par performance of 587 which left me well down the list, though not bottum thankfully!! Neil faired slightly better with his 590 and mike shot really well witha 594 including a questionable 8.something that dropped like a stone!! Well there's always Milan for us to improve and make up ground!! Here's hoping and wishing all competing the best!!!
Enough of the shooting and some more pictures. Following on from some comments about the lack of range complex in Wales I thought I would show you as much of the complex here as I can on this blog.
You've already seen the Smallbore shooting range, here's the rest....

This is the map of the complex.

World Cup Munich Day 5
Some results of the shooting are in order I believe!
Sian Competed in the 10m Air rifle competition and had a respectable score of 389 with which she and the team were quite happy with. The final was made up with a top score of 399 and I believe the other 7 places were all on 398, quite a high standard then!!!
On to the prone. First thing to say is that all three of us (Mike, Neil and myself) are all through to the qualification round fairly comfortably. Nice one all!!! Special mention to Matthew Thompson shooting in the MQS match (same time as me) who shot an International Match personal best of 593, nice one boyo!!!
Neil Stirton - 593 - 8th (Elim 1)
Mike Babb - 590 - 18th (Elim 1)
Dave Phelps - 589 - 13th (elim 2)
Matthew Thompson - 593 - (MQS Elim 2)

World Cup Munich Day 3
Well so far I've had one day seeing the sights of Munich city and one day of the range. Training went well for me, some very good quality 10's and tight grouping! Mike shot well also, whilst learning the wind conditions. Neil and Mathew final recieved their rifles today, but not in good enough time for the training. Fortionatly there is some more training time tommorow!
Will keep you updated on the progress tommorrow after official training.
Here are some of the sights of Munich and the range.

NO I did not visit!!!!!!!!
The range is Huge 102 firing points, all with electronic targets, monitors and TV screens for spectators to watch on!! Awsome!!!

Lots of firing points!!!!

The TV's above each firing point

Wind, make up your mind!!!!!

World Cup Munich
Greetings from the Holiday Inn - Munich!
Yeh, I know, another week another trip abroad by dave! at the moment I'm in Munich for the ISSF world cup, followed next week by another World cup in Milan. At these events I have the oportunity to increase my current world ranking of 33, beat the pants of the best shooters in the world and ultimatley if all goes well, win a Quota place for the 2008 Olympics!!
The flight here was one of the most bumpy and turbulant I have ever been on so I'm feeling a bit WOO at the moment. Time will sort that out though! Going through customs at both ends was a breeze this time, done in record time i think!!
The hotel in Munich seems quite nice and central, though I have not been out and about yet. Will need to explore soon though, need to purchase some milk and biscuits!!!!
I shall leave you for the moment with some views of the conditions I will have to suffer whilst I'm here.... Its a hard life.....Honest!!!!!

One view of the room

Here you can see the mini bar, Kettle (thankfully), Air conditioning controls and all important TV remote.
(it can be a hard life on these trips sometimes!!!!

Nice room!!
As an addition to these pics here are a few of Rachel and myself from Friday night when we attended the Welsh sports hall of fame dinner and awards evening.
Be affraid!!!!!

Damn Pap!!!
All the best guys
Dave
PS should be able to post often as there is internet access in the rooms at reasonable rates!!
